In the years I have spent with Brugs I didn't even realise how much I had learnt until I started to pass that same knowledge onto others.
I can now pin point many different health and wellbeing problems in horses, and I know the best way to treat them.
I can effectively train different horses, including their specific nutritional needs required to function at their peak performance.
I have also learnt that every horse is different and each management plan is different; something I have also found in humans.
As unusual as it may sound, all this training of the the horses has taught me more about how to deal with people than people have tried to teach me.
I now feel that I am an asset to the community, and have many different skills to bring to the table.
All the skills I have learnt at the yard I have been able to apply in life; for example at university, I am successfully passing a Bachelor of Science majoring in Conservation and Ecology; the work ethic and dedication is thanks to Brugs.
Not only has being based with Brugs helped my riding and my ability to teach the wider community, but I have grown much more confident in myself and my own abilities. I currently have many different pupils of all ages and abilities and am able to teach them based on the principals I have been taught.
I am so grateful for the opportunity I have had to learn with Brugs. I have learnt more about horses and life than I could have ever dreamed of.
I have had more success at competitons than I could have possibly imagined; and have Brugs to thank for that.
Thank you Brugs; I hope through the Dressage Academy we will be able to offer people in the community the opportunities I have had.

NZ Horse & Pony - Bill Noble on Sophie Griffith
The article talks about Sophie Griffith. Sophie is a student that has been training with Brugs Nicholls for over 3 years.
Reproduced with permission from Bill Noble's Enter at A column in the April 2016 edition of NZ Horse and Pony April 2016:
"At this year's Nationals there were many combinations working comfortably; the standard of riding is certainly improving... The winners will be lauded; there were also several examples of super riding from some who didn't win. One of these I found particularly interesting:a young girl who has trained beautifully her young horse from zero to Advanced, and came up from Christchurch to compete in the CDIY. Nineteen-year-old Sophie Griffith's Frangelico looked totally at ease at Manfield, and demonstrated what YR dressage should be about: a talented rider on a charming horse developing a great working relationship to perform stress-free, dignified tests... She will learn so much by training this horse (still only seven years old) through to Grand Prix under the watchful eye of Brugs Nicholls; this is how future champions will be made.... "
Sophie Griffiths is the first Academy rider and has been training with Brugs Nicholls for over 3 years.
